Average lifespan of roof tiles
The lifespan of roof tiles is not expected to exceed 20 to 30 years. period. This is because even though they are made of concrete, the cement slabs that form them are very different from the regular concrete used in sidewalks and foundations. Concrete roof tiles are rougher during their production, which means that the permeability and strength of the cement board has been reduced.
Concrete roof tiles are made by placing a layer of sand, a layer of wire mesh and a layer of concrete on wooden supports. The three layers were covered by another piece of plywood, which was turned over and the sand side was now facing up. Metal rods are driven into the concrete from below and then bent to form a loop.
This process is repeated until a sufficient amount of concrete is formed. When you're done, place a steel rack with a heater on it and heat it until the whole thing is dry. Once dry, the wooden supports are removed and the concrete roof tiles are born.
As you can imagine, the manufacturing process of concrete roof tiles is very different from that of ordinary cement, and the impact of this production difference on the final product is very significant. The lower strength of concrete roof tiles means they wear out much faster than other masonry products such as bricks, pavers and garden walls.
Better quality concrete roof tiles have a lifespan of between 30 and 50 years with regular maintenance. Inexpensive concrete roof tiles can last 10 years.
